Daytona Beach Camping

Q: Hi. My friends and I would like to drive to Florida and camp somewhere near Daytona Beach, but we really don't care as long as it is on a beach on the ocean. We would like a really nice campground with a reasonable price. Any suggestions? Thanks -- Wendy

A: Wendy -- that sounds like a lot of fun! I'd recommend Canaveral National Seashore in New Smyrna Beach. Make sure to call ahead to reserve your campsite. Depending on when you plan to go, you may not be able to camp on the beach because beach camping is prohibited during sea turtle nesting season (roughly, summertime).

Just north of Daytona, try the beach campground at Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area in Flagler Beach.

If that doesn't work for you, try Ocean Village Camper Resort (904-441-1808) in Ormond Beach. Or, see some of my previous beach camping suggestions in the Camping Travel Q&A area (below) for other parts of the state.

If you've never camped in Florida before, please read the EcoFlorida Florida camping primer for some tips.
