Paddling Southwestern Florida's Rivers

Q: Are there any maps specifically for kayakers on the southwest coast area? I have NOAA and waterproof maps, but they tend to stay on the coast. What about the many rivers?

A: That's a great question! You're right; many charts are geared toward coastal areas.

Some marine stores carry charts that include rivers; you can call ahead or go in and browse the selection.

NauticalCharts.com offers charts for Florida's southern coasts and includes some Florida river maps, although these are the lower end of rivers where they meet the ocean. You can also check out the site's southwestern Florida destination checklist, which might be helpful.

A good resource for Florida river maps is the Florida Office of Greenways and Trails' list of Florida state canoe trails.

You can get maps custom made for you at A Galaxy of Maps and Books.
