Sandhill crane nests

Q: What type of vegetation do sandhill cranes like to use to build their nests with?

A: Thanks for your question. You know what? I had no idea. So I did some research. Sandhill cranes typically use grasses to build their nests, and sometimes certain kinds of ferns.

Sandhills usually have 2 eggs, and both parents care for the young. A ranger once told me the parents won't fly again until their young can, which can be a while for these large birds.

Hope this answers your question.
