So where do you go in Florida?

You can choose a camping area based on how far it is from your house (or your relative's), what features the camping area has (like whether you can rent canoes or see particular kinds of wildlife there) or any number of factors. You may want to visit a forest or a state park. You may want to camp on the beach. Or visit all of these areas one by one.

There are national parks, national forests, state parks and recreational areas, county and city parks, and private campgrounds. Campgrounds run by national and state agencies are almost always well maintained. Many county and city parks can be great, too, but their quality varies. Private campgrounds vary wildly, with some being like neighborhoods and others being rather dumpy.

We have camped in all these types of parks and survived -- and many would say that kind of resourcefulness is the fun of camping. But never compromise your safety. If you feel unsafe in a campground, don't stay.
